In the IEMT Identity Pattern there is the question of "and where is X? "
When X is a pronoun (I, Me, Self, You)
As I keep training IEMT and working with its protocols in the clinic I've started noticing that I was getting 3 types of answers to that question, and after doing the Social Panorama training it even became more clear to me, what I was getting on the Identity Pattern:
* Memory Based: "at home", "in school".. etc..
* Location Based: "inside me", "near me", "left of me"… etc..
* Metaphor Based: "at the beginning of my journey", "at a cross road"…etc.
I started thinking that each gave the opportunity to do a different type of work:
The 1st I found that if I start asking the Age question first, then do the Lazy 8. I get a series of memories all connected in someway to the client's problem at hand. vary much like the Memory Networks idea in EMDR… I've noticed in most cases when I worked along the lines of Memory Based answers, that there were 2 types of processes going on simultaneity:
1 – Age progression, which I attribute that to the Identity imprint ideas from IEMT
2 – a conscious recollection of memories and reevaluation of all the memories that came up (especially during the lazy 8) from an older point of view (The clients chronological age) and getting to new realizations and beliefs.
The 2nd type of work, was doing some Social Panorama processes when I got a location based answer.
And the 3rd (which I havent try yet, but will and report back) is Clean Language or MoM processes when I get Metaphorical based answers.
In a previous discussion on a facebook page, I got a message that in IEMT we are supposed to explain that we are looking for a location based answer.
This got me thinking on 2 things:
1. If a therapist can direct what kind of answer s/he would like to get, then there should be a Pros and Cons to each of the 3 possible types of answers, that way a therapist can decide on which way to work.
2. If we follow the rule: "work with what ever comes up" that Andy has put into the IEMT principles (as I got it from the videos of the training in Israel) then asking a clean question: "and where is X?" – and by the answer working with the different modality:
Memory – lazy 8
Location – Social Panorama
Metaphor – CL or MoM
It is from my experience that when I got a Location based answer and did the Lazy 8, I got some memories there after, and eventually got the age progression and the location usually observed, but it went through the Memory Network.
When I did Social Panorama Process on a location based answer, I got an age progression as well as a new internal panorama and emotional changes in the client as well.
I haven tried messing around with the Metaphor Based answers yet, but will report it as I advance in my explorations.
